The family olive groves

In a Nutshell
Gomeoliva produces exceptional quality organic and Priego de Cordoba Denomination of Origin olive oil using picual, picudo, and hojiblanca olives harvested from their organic olive groves that are located in a natural park. The 90 year old trees are integrated with blackberry bushes and quince, fig, and walnut trees to help fight off pests naturally. Although growing olives organically is more expensive due to the higher labor costs, Gomeoliva feels strongly that it is the only way to work the land.

What's Their Story?
In 1956, Leoncio Gomez left the family bakery to establish an olive oil producing company. He had a vision to create the highest quality all natural product. When the option to become certified organic came up, he jumped at it, making Gomeoliva one of the most forward thinking oil producing companies in Spain. Today five of his six children work for the company: the oldest daughter is the lab technician, Marina is the director of sales and marketing, Alfons is the contact to the farmers, Manuel is the director of the new factory, and Jose Luis oversees the family olive groves. The company has expanded to include three processing plants which produce over 6 million kilos of oil a year.

Why We Think They're Nifty
In addition to being family owned and operated, a responsible member of the community, AND organic, they also work with over 3000 local farmers to help these farmers process their own oil using Gomeoliva’s modern technology. Plus, they have invited us to help them harvest the olives in the fall of 2001 – can’t get niftier than that!
